“Life is an Ongoing Adventure"

SUNNYSIDE UP MOMENT - APRIL 16, 2020

DAY THIRTY-ONE OF THE CORONAVIRUS SHUTDOWN FOR US AT STACK 'EM HIGH PANCAKES AND SO FORTH

Good afternoon!  I apologize for my late arrival on the scene today.  We skipped homeschool this morning for a lesson in homesteading!  No kidding we have two queen bees and their small entourage in our kitchen cupboard ready to be placed in the hive this afternoon.  The kids made markers for the garden because today we begin transplanting seeds to the outside space.  And the rest of the morning was spent creating a temporary home for our new friends.  May I introduce Sunny and Lulu, our two day old baby chicks.  They will be joined by eight mature hens in the coming weeks.

Beekeeping, gardening, animal husbandry.  These are all endeavors we have given a lot of lip service to over the last couple of years but could never quite find the motivation or the “right time” to take the final leap.  Nick started us off with bees last summer and this unfortunate situation has fortunately led to the opportunity we have been waiting for.  Maya Angelou once wrote, “Because of our routines, we forget that life is an ongoing adventure.”  Well, I for one can attest to that truth.  We are certainly out of our routine, but I for one can see a little silver lining.
